On 19 October 2016, the Wage Committee has adopted a resolution to adjust minimum wage of 69 provinces and maintain the rate of 8 provinces. This adjustment will be enforced on 1 January 2017 onward.
Although there is not much announcement of this adjustment, it is crucial for the employer to note this adjustment as paying wage lower than minimum rate prescribed by the Wage Committee has criminal liability of 6 months imprisonment and/or fine not exceeding THB 100,000.
The new minimum wage rates apply as follows:
- THB 5 increase to 49 provinces: Maehongsorn, Lampang, Nan, Tak, Kanchanaburi, Rachaburi, Supanburi, Petchburi, Pattalung, Satoon, Kampangpetch, Pichit, Prae, Petchaboon, Utaithanee, Sakonnakorn, Kalasin, Mahasarakam, Roied, Buriram, Surin, Amnatcharoen, Chainat, Lopburi, Nakornnayok, Srakeaw, Prachubkirikan, Samutsongkram, Chantaburi, Trad, Lumpoon, Payao, Sukothai, Audtaradit, Bungkarn, Nakornpanom, Ubonrachathani, Angthong, Loei, Nongbualumpoo, Mukdaharn, Yasothorn, Chaingrai, Pitsanulok, Udornthani, Chaiyapoom, Srisaked, Nakornsawan and Nongkai.
- THB 8 increase to 13 provinces: Konken, Nakornrachasima, Prajeenburi, Chonburi, Rayong, Surajthani, Songkla, Chiangmai, Saraburi, Chacheongsao, Krabi, Phangnga and Ayudthaya.
- THB 10 increase to 7 provinces: Bangkok , Nakornpathom, Nonthaburi, Patumthani, Samutprakarn, Samutsakorn and Phuket.
There are 8 provinces that minimum wage is unchanged which are Singburi, Nakornsithammarat, Chumporn, Trang, Ranong, Naratiwas, Pattani and Yala.
